Technical Topics

CENTRAL TOPIC:Sustainable cities”, whichis based on three issues: Trends – new technologies being developed; Current technologies – technologies and solutions currently available in the market; and Revivals – traditional technologies that offer an interesting potential for continued application.

SUSTAINABLE CITIES
The management of cities permeates all aspects of sustainable cities, which, with natural attractions, are highly coveted by national and international tourism.

HEALTHY CITY
This regards actions that can contribute toward the physical and mental health of the population. The construction of parks and “city gyms”, improvements in basic sanitation, water treatment and waste treatment are some of the measures that can be taken based on the ideal of a healthy city proposed by CITAES 2010.

EDUCATED CITY
Inform the public about measures that can be taken to improve quality of life. Make people aware of the importance of clean technologies and the maximization of basic needs such as water, electricity and raw materials. These goals can be reached through basic education, professionalizing and environmental education programs systematically adopted in schools, universities and community associations.

ACCESSIBLE CITY

The physical structure of construction projects and cities is not yet completely adequate for the accessibility needs of disabled and elderly individuals. Firms and institutions in all industries need to concern themselves with road structures, transportation, the rational use of land, urban planning and healthy mobility for everyone, thereby respecting the differences of individuals who participate in the same community.

SAFE
CITY
Ensure the security of the population through preventive measures, such as urban planning directed at safety, the implantation of efficient public lighting, telecommunications, surveillance systems and prevention.

PRESERVED CITY

The material and intangible goods of a location are what represent the cultural identity and memory of a country. The private and public sectors need to be concerned with the preservation of the heritage constructed by humans. Preserved City regards the actions that can ensure the sustainable use of the past: the creation of cultural and scientific venues; the preservation of nature and society’s memory; and restructuring and renovation projects for artistic and cultural assets.

CIVIL CITY

While knowing there are differences between individuals in the same community, CITAES is also concerned with discussing actions that allow these individuals to live in conditions of equality with others. This will be possible when the different public and private industries of the economy adopt measures of social inclusion, employability and habitability for the sake of sustainable development.
