The CITAES International Congress on Applied Technology for Sustainable Architecture and Engineering is a biennial event created to have a broad impact on society through its format and the divulgation of technologies at the service of society and, especially, the singularity of its presentation on SUSTAINABILITY and its reflection on society.

CITAES was created by the Pernambuco offices of SINAENCO - National Union of Architecture and Consulting Engineering Firms, which is made up of firms that offer and produce intelligent solutions in architecture and engineering in Brazil, involving firms that produce and offer the services of planning, studies, research, projects, control, management, technical supervision, inspection, expediting and monitoring of enterprises related to architecture and engineering.

CITAES was conceived to be a unique forum for awareness regarding sustainable technologies, architecture and engineering for the solutions of societal problems, including immediate applicability, the presentation of new technologies or existing technologies used in an innovative fashion in benefit of the quality of life of the population.

CITAES will always accompany the Technological Fair, which, in this first event, will address the topic “Comfort, Safety and Economy in Construction Projects”

CITAES focuses on three basic issues:

• Trends – New technologies that are being developed at research centers and universities, even though they may not have an immediate application, but are promising for the sustainable development of society;

• Current Technologies – Perfectly applicable technologies and solutions available on the market, but the divulgation and applicability of which need to be better explained to society;

• Revivals – Old technologies that, with adaptation, have adequate applicability and economy for current problems.

CITAES’ target audience included students, professionals and entrepreneurs of architecture and engineering. Its indirect target audience is the general public interested in finding sustainable solutions to their day-to-day problems wherever they may be.

CITAES has the following special action goals regarding society:

• Divulge and popularize the concepts of sustainability and the importance of the cost-benefit ratio of sustainable solutions;
